After living the first years of his adolescence in Indonesia, Rem Koolhaas (Rotterdam. 1944) moved to Amsterdam, where he worked as a film writer and journalist. A short time later, he went to London to study at the Architectural Association. A trip to New York gave him the inspiration for his publication Delirious New York, a Retroactive Manifesto for Manhattan". In 1975. he made the move from architectural theory to practice and founded, with Elia and Zoe Zenghelis and Mandelon Vriesendorp. the studio Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). The projects that have emerged from the enterprise have been awarded many prizes, including the prestigious Pritzker in 2000. One of the most spectacular projects in the last years were the designs of the Guggenheim museums in Las Vegas.
