The present monograph considers and summarizes the rsults of the author`s activities of long standing as an archaeologist,art historian and medieval Bulgaria(9th-14th c.)The conclusions reached in it are important not only for Bulgarian art but for the culture of Byzantium and the Orthodox East as well.The book deals successfully with the issues of the genesis,the flourishing,the iconography,the style,the dating and the funtion of the painted and embossed white and red clay icons in medieval Bulgaria using all materials from the archaeological excavations and investigations in Great Preslav,Great Tarnovo and Cherven available up to now.
