This book explores the 20th century architecture of Prague, a cradle of Modernism in which buildings of many styles and periods are arranged like theatrical scenery. Smaller buildings are placed in front of large, broad and plain ones are jammed against thin and exuberant ones, modern, hard-edged structures mingle with soft Baroque or Secessionist facades, or extraordinary Cubist structures unique to the city, layering themselves into a harmony of space and form. More than 120 buildings are described here, including work by Adolf Loos, Joze Plecnik, Bruno Paul, Mart Stam, and Future Systems.
